Portsmouth

  • Lantern Tour - A walking tour of the Olde Towne historic district with a guide in period attire at twilight. On this hour-long tour, visitors get a taste of the legends and folklore of Olde Towne and also learn about the district's unique architectural styles. Groups depart from the lobby of the Holiday Inn Olde Towne Waterfront Hotel at 8:30pm Tuesdays and from the foyer of the Renaissance Portsmouth Hotel at 7:30 p.m. Saturdays. 757-393-5111.
  • Olde Towne Trolley Tour - Discover more than 300 years of history on an hour trolley tour of Portsmouth's oldest historic district. Departs from the Visitor Information Center, Wednesday & Sunday at 9:30am & 10:45am through the summer. Limited seating. Reservations required. 757-393-5111.
  • Olde Towne Walking Tour – A self-guided walking tour of Olde Towne that takes you to 45 sites in the historic district, about one-mile total. Free brochure available at the Visitor Information Center. 757-393-5111.
  • Try a River Taxi - An alternative to the public-transit ferry service on the Elizabeth River. Fare: $5/Adults, $3/Children, and includes a discount coupon for return trip or next ride.   • Horse and Carriage Ride - Experience Olde Towne at a leisurely pace, in an 1800s restored surrey. Carriage stops on the corner of Water Street & Harbor Street, Reservations:

  • Take In Dinner and a Show at The Commodore Theatre
    A luxuriously restored 1945 Art Deco style motion picture theatre presenting first run films. Phone in your order from your rocking chair seat for sandwiches, desserts and pizza, as well as beer, wine and traditional soft drinks. Box Office opens one hour before the show.
